A Mind Palace is a way for people to remember information.
In the past, knowledge was transmitted from generation to generation by word of mouth. It took 400 years for Homer’s Illiad and the Oddessy to be written down. People memorized every word. They developed a method of associating rooms and symbols with what they needed to recall. This method has been taught since ancient times.(Even Sherlock Holmes kept his information organized this way.)
